Two weekends ago, my whole family was at the lake having a garage sale and celebrating my brother’s birthday. He even brought his smoker out to make his pork roast and spent all day cooking it. Everyone at the garage sale wanted to come back for dinner later on.  The pork was so delicious and there was so much of it leftover you could make pulled pork sandwiches and nachos with it for weeks. Kevin made pulled pork nachos with the leftovers and everyone devoured them. Then my brother suggested making a recipe for that so here they are. The best pulled pork nachos I’ve ever eaten brought to you by my brother Derek and Kevin!  To smoke pork butt my brother just follows this recipe video on youtube.

How to make Smoked Pulled Pork Nachos

Mix all spices together. Rub it all over the pork shoulder roast. Smoke for 5 hrs at 275 degrees.  Take the pork out and wrap it in tinfoil. It still has a lot of cooking left to do. This helps retain the moisture. Continue cooking the pork for 8 more hours.  Let the pork rest for 3o minutes and then shred the pork.  To make nachos, preheat an oven to 350 degrees.  Layer the chips, pulled pork, and cheese on top of a sheet pan and place them in the oven for 5 to 10 minutes or until the cheese has melted.   Top with your favorite nacho toppings.

Nacho Toppings

When it comes to nacho toppings you can put whatever you want on them. These are my favorite toppings to use, or maybe you like your nachos plain with just some jalapenos on top.

What type of smokers are the best?

I have had my Traeger smoker for a very long time and I would recommend that brand to anyone wanting to learn how to smoke food. Traegers are kind of pricey but there are some very reasonably priced smokers for under $100.

Wood Chips: Traeger smokers require wood pellets instead of wood chips. There are so many different kinds of wood chips and you can find them at any hardware store. Places like Target and Wal-Mart also sell them. I’ve even seen wood chips at the grocery stores.
