Smoked lobster tails are perfect for an outdoor BBQ and they are great served with some watermelon and corn on the cob! I had a hankering for some lobster rolls and since it’s Summer out now you have to smoke the lobster or grill it. Depending on the size of the lobster tails you get, the small lobster tails take no time at all on the smoker. I picked up some lobster tails ranging in size from 4oz to 6 oz at the grocery store this Memorial Day weekend. Lobster is 0 points on WW and is chock full of protein. I served my lobster tails with some watermelon and corn which are both 0 points. It was a very yummy and filling Memorial Day dinner for only 0 points. I know a lot of people like to dip their lobster in melted butter but I prefer using I Can’t Believe It’s Not Butter spray on my corn on the cob and lobster. I am not sponsored by this brand at all, I just really like their butter spray! It is not recommended to eat lobster every other day because of the high amount of cholesterol in them. 1 cup of lobster meat has an entire day worth of cholesterol!  If you don’t have a smoker to cook your lobster tails use a grill instead. They only take about 5 minutes per side on the grill at medium-high heat.

Ingredients for Smoked Lobster Tails

4 (4 to 6oz) lobster tails Salt and Pepper

How to make Smoked Lobster Tails

Preheat your smoker for 5 minutes or until the temperature reaches 100 degrees. In a bowl toss your lobster tails with salt, pepper, and olive oil. Set the smoker to 225 degrees. Place your lobster tails on the smoker with the slit side up for about 1 hr. Any type of woodchips can be used.

Tips for Smoked Lobster Tails

Make sure your Traeger or smoking grill is clean on the inside and out before turning your smoker on. This must be done at least after every 3 uses. Otherwise, the augur spits out all the pellets inside the Traeger and pellets will not stop smoking. I learned this the hard way. Get some kind of cordless vacuum to suck up all the dust and extra pellets for cleaning. I’ve had a couple of issues with this because the temperature dropped on the smoker. If your lobster tails are more than the recommended oz size that I mentioned in the recipe keep on smoking them for 15 minutes longer. The lobster tails are done when they turn completely white in the middle and the outside of the shell is all red. When you buy lobster tails at the meat department they will be black. Like I mentioned above Lobster is zero points if you are following the WW plan. I know lobster can get quite expensive but I only buy lobster tails maybe 2 or 3 times a year. They are a nice little treat to have every now and then. You can serve your lobster tails with just about anything or make lobster rolls with the meat. Leave out the olive oil to make them completely zero points and use Pam cooking spray instead.  If you want some smoked corn on the cob with your lobster tails they both get done cooking at the same time because you can cook them together for the same amount of time and at the same temperature!

What Smoker Do I have?

I have had my Traeger smoker for a very long time and I would recommend that brand to anyone wanting to learn how to smoke food. Traegers are kind of pricey but there are some very reasonably priced smokers for under $100.  Wood Chips: Traeger smokers require wood pellets instead of wood chips. There are so many different kinds of wood chips and you can find them at any hardware store. Places like Target and Wal-Mart also sell them. I’ve even seen wood chips at the grocery stores.
