Ingredients
1 FILLING
1 cup Molasses
1 teaspoon Baking Soda
1 cup Warm Water
1 CRUMB TOPPING
2 cups Flour
3/4 cup Brown Sugar (firmly packed)
1/2 teaspoon Baking Soda
Preparation
Prepare an all-purpose pie crust. [bottom only]
Preheat oven to 425 degrees.
In a mixing bowl, mix together the flour, baking soda, and sugar.
Add the butter to the flour mix and mash the butter pieces into the flour mix with a wooden spoon so that the butter forms fine crumbs.
In another mixing bowl, dissolve the baking soda into the warm water. Add the molasses. Whisk the mixture until foamy.
Pour the molasses mixture into the chilled piecrust.
Sprinkle the flour/crumb mixture over the top.
Place the pie in the oven for 10 minutes. Reduce the heat to 350 degrees. Bake until the crust is brown and the filling is set. About 25 - 30 minutes.
