No, I’m not talking about the banana boat you can ride on the sea or on a lake. I’m talking about a banana that gets cooked on the grill in some foil and has gooey marshmallows and melted chocolate on top.

How to make Grilled Banana Boats

Cut banana peel lengthwise about ½ in. deep, leaving ½ in. at both ends.  Open peel wider to form a pocket. Fill each with 1 teaspoon chocolate chips and 1 tablespoon marshmallows. Crimp and shape four pieces of heavy-duty foil (about 12 in. square) around bananas, forming boats. Grill, covered, over medium heat for 5-10 minutes or until marshmallows melt and are golden brown. Serving size: 1 banana boat Oven: 400 for 5 to 10 minutes

Tips for Grilled Banana Boats

If you are making these banana boats on the grill use aluminum foil and wrap the sides of the banana boats up so they are easier to handle and get off the grill. Cook the banana boats on a grill grate if your fire is hot.  To tell if the banana boats are ready to eat, the bananas will be soft and not firm.  Do not cut all the way down the banana. Make sure there is at least a quarter-inch space so that the bananas can sit on a flat surface as they cook.
