Ingredients

2 cups Flour, unsifted, all-purpose

2 cups Sugar

1 teaspoon Baking soda

1/2 teaspoon Baking powder

2/3 cup Butter

1 cup Buttermilk

1 teaspoon Vanilla

4 Egg yolks

4 ounce Bakers German’s Brand Sweet Chocolate OR Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips

1/2 teaspoon salt

4 Egg Whites, Stiffly beaten

Preparation

Oven at 350ºF.

Melt chocolate in boiling water, cool.

Cream butter and sugar until fluffy.

Beat in egg yolks, adding one at a time, beating well after each

Blend in vanilla and chocolate.

Mix flour, soda, and salt. (and baking powder)

Beat flour mixture into chocolate, alternating with buttermilk.

Beat egg whites until stiff peaks form; fold into batter.

pour into three 9 inch layer pans. Bake at 350 for 30-35 minutes. Cool. Front tops and sides.
