Ingredients
3 cups lukewarm milk
4 tablespoons corn syrup (light)
1/2 cup shortening (heaping)
4 eggs (well beaten)
1.5 cups sugar
4 teaspoons salt
2 teaspoons cardamon (heaping)
5 cups flour
2.5 package packaged, quick-rise yeast
2/3 cup warm water
Preparation
Dissolve yeast in warm water. Combine ingredients in large mixing bowl. Let rise until tripled. Add 1 pound of mixed fruit (dried cherries) and 1 cup of golden raisins, mixing fruit with flour before you add to mixture. Add another 8 and 1/3 to 8 and 1/2 cups of flour. Let rise, pounding down once. Knead into small, smooth, round loaves. Bake at 350 for 35-45 min.
