I went to Hawaii a couple of years ago with my family and had so many good tropical flavored drinks there, so I thought I’d kick off Summer with this drink! Mai Tais and lots of Pina Coladas like this drink are popular in Hawaii. I even got to try a pina colada where they took a pineapple and hallowed out the core and filled it with a pina colada drink. It wasn’t blue but it was so damn good and tasty. I can imagine those bartenders having to core out the insides of pineapple every day just to make them and what a tedious task that would have been. Fruit drinks like this blue Hawaiian are right up my alley! My cocktail will make 2 drinks and will fill a whole hurricane glass. I garnished my Blue Hawaiians with a slice of orange but most of the time a slice of pineapple is used as a garnish. I just used whatever I had on hand.

How to say blue curacao?

Wondering what blue curaçao is? Blue Curacao is a blue colored, slightly bitter orange-flavored liqueur used in popular blue cocktails like the Blue Hawaiian, Blue Bird and many other delicious cocktails. Curacao is naturally colorless and is made from the dried peals of the laraha citrus fruit. How do you say the word curacao? Good question, because I’ve always wondered myself. It’s like the word Worcestershire sauce. I can never pronounce that word or spell it correctly like I can’t with the word curacao. Curaçao is pronounced as ‘Cure-ah-souw’. The blue version is then called Blue ‘Cure-ah-souw’. - source www.curacaoliqueur.com

History of the Blue Hawaiian

The Blue Hawaii was invented in 1957 by Harry Yee, legendary head bartender of the Hilton Hawaiian Village (formerly the Kaiser Hawaiian Village) in Waikiki, Hawaii when a sales representative of Dutch distiller Bols asked him to design a drink that featured their blue color of Curaçao liqueur. After experimenting with several variations he settled on a version somewhat different from the most popular version today, but with the signature blue color, pineapple wedge, and cocktail umbrella.  - source Wikipedia

Bartending Tips for Beginners

Always keep 6 basic liquors stocked in your bar. Those are Vodka, Whiskey, Rum, Tequila, Gin, and Brandy. Different types of liqueurs are also great to have for a well stocked bar. Examples of creme based liqueurs are Rumchata, Kauhula,  or Irish Cream Essential mixers to keep on hand would be ginger beer, different flavored juices, or or sodas like Sprite and Club. Simple syrups are just equal parts sugar and water and you can add whatever extract flavoring you want to them. Of course, always keep a variety of different cocktail glasses serving and ice on hand. Bartender Kit Bar Drink Tool Set - with Stylish Bamboo Stand Cocktail Recipes Booklet
